The Yrausquin Story
Company History
Our story starts in 1952 in Curacao where our founder Ruben Efrain Yrausquin Sr. took over the Ford Dealership. At that time, Ford seriously needed a boost on the island. Overall, there was not a lot of demand for cars. But as the economy picked up and Ruben’s hard work, car sales went up quickly.
“When I started out, there were 6 other car businesses. Ford had no considerable market share. So I had to start building up consumer confidence and get the garage into full service. Slowly but surely, the business started to take off. But still, I always pushed for more.” – Ruben E. Yrausquin Sr.
By the time it was 1969, Ruben Yrausquin Sr. was not only the owner of the Ford dealership, but also possessed Pharmacies, Department Stores and a Record shop. When the riots broke out, he had just moved the garage to brand new premises in Saliña. The new garage, the shops, everything was burnt to ashes. There was nothing left, except for a lot of experience and his good reputation.
Ruben Yrausquin Sr. took over the Mercury and Lincoln dealership and re-established himself again. Three years later, he found out that a car dealership on Aruba was being sold.
In 1972 Ruben Yrausquin Sr. bought Carib Motors and so was R. E. Yrausquin & Sons born.
After a while Ruben Yrausquin Sr. let his eldest son Ruben Efrain Yrausquin Jr. (Rubencito) take over the place.
Carib Motors was representing a big amount of car-brands, like Honda, Daihatsu, Suzuki and Fiat, but at the long run this was not an ideal situation and Rubencito decided to let go of these brands and focus on Ford, Mercury, Lincoln and Mitsubishi.
At present, the company is owned and managed by the third generation of Yrausquin’s.
The Yrausquin company, located at L. G. Smith Boulevard 112, Oranjestad – Aruba, is a local family business, owned and operated for three generations by the Yrausquin family.
The history of this company, also known as the Yrausquin Story, dates back to 1952 in our neighboring island of Curacao.
The current location of the residing building (known in history as Carib Motors) was purchased in 1972 and was renamed, R. E. Yrausquin & Sons. During that period, the dealership had a wide range of car brands in its portfolio which were later on reassessed.
At present the company is known to be representing its premium automotive brands passed on by previous generations as well as new brands in the last couple of years.
In addition to selling well-known automotive brands, the company also offers vehicle services, repairs, body shop services, selling of original vehicle parts and the sales of used vehicles.
