JOB SUMMARY
The Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various vehicles to ensure optimal performance and customer satisfaction.
Inspections, repairs, maintenance, and installations are completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with the manufacturer’s and dealer’s brand’s quality and time standards, safety and environmental programs and practices, and the manufacturer’s warranty program.
Automotive services may include, but are not limited to drivability, suspensions, alignments, steering, heating, air conditioning, basic, (ABS) brakes, exhaust systems, and overall vehicle safety and performance standards.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Perform maintenance and service on a variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and SUVs.
- Diagnose and repair a range of automotive issues, including mechanical, electrical systems, engines, brakes, and other components.
- Carry out repairs, recalls, and factory warranty repairs in accordance with established manufactures procedures and work shop manuals.
- Carry out services in accordance with established Dealership procedures; however, in compliance with the manufactures procedures.
- Identify problems and develop effective solutions using diagnostic equipment and specialized tools.
- Road test vehicles as needed to ensure proper repair completion.
- Road tests are performed on fixed and designated routes as indicated and approved by the Dealership.
- Review and evaluate work instructions, for example customer concerns, complaints, and requests to determine if additional information is necessary and what type of diagnosis is needed by following the established company procedures and using the systems available; for example, to look up information and put in additional requests.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used and provide detailed reports to work orders, supervisor, and management as necessary.
- Collaborate with supervisor, technicians, and service advisors to ensure an efficient workflow in the Shop.
- Inform the Service Advisor or Shop Foreman of suggested additional work that is needed to do, so the customer may be notified and obtain his/her approval.
- Maintain knowledge and skills through ongoing manufacture and company training and professional development opportunities, including yearly re-certifications to ensure certificates remain valid.
- Stay updated with the latest automotive technology advancements through ongoing training and development.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality.
- Ensure a safe and clean work environment and adhere to all health and safety regulations.
- Follow and adhere to Dealership’s parts request process and documentation hereof when requesting parts, i.e. for additional work requests, ASR.
- Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and repairs on dealership tools and equipment to keep them in good working order, and ensure workspace and facility is clean and organized at all times.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the customer’s vehicle at all times.
- Follow all hazardous waste and OSHA safety regulations and company policies and properly dispose of used parts and return unused parts to the parts counterperson.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned and/or required by business need.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Vocational Technical training/certifications/diploma in automotive technology, repair or maintenance is preferred by an accredited institution.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in automotive repair or service as an automotive technician or mechanic.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- ASE certification preferred in one or more of the following areas:
• Electrical or Electronic Systems
• Brakes
• Heating and Air Conditioning
• Suspension and Steering
• Manual Drive Train and Axles
• Automatic Transmission and Transaxle
• Engine Performance
• Engine Repair - Proficiency in diagnosing vehicle problems using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Strong knowledge of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, etc.
- Ability to perform complex mechanical repairs efficiently and accurately.
- Strong motivation for further development and acquire essential automotive repair skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
- Proficient reading, verbal, and written communication skills in English are required. Spanish, Papiamento, and Dutch are optional.
- Valid driver’s license B minimum.
